Usor scores on debut to give Nigeria 2-1 win over Madagascar in Uyo
Moses Usor scored on his first appearance for the Super Eagles to complete a comeback and hand Nigeria a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Friday, reports said.
Madagascar took an early lead through Kari Eshan in the 16th minute, before George Ilenikhena levelled for Nigeria shortly before half-time. Usor, who came on for Samuel Chukwueze in the 61st minute, finished a four-minute cameo with a composed strike to put the hosts ahead.
The match ended 2-1 to Nigeria, according to reports from local sports outlets. The LASK winger, 24, celebrated the goal on social media and thanked the coaching staff, his teammates and supporters.
Completesports captured Usor’s Instagram message in full: “What a moment! Grateful for my scoring debut and for the trust and support from the coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans. This one means a lot!”
The Confederation of African Football also praised the strike on its X account, calling it: “A one-man show from Moses Usor, finished in style on Nigeria’s road through the #TotalEnergiesAFCON2027 qualifiers. 🇳🇬⚡️”
Usor’s goal followed George Ilenikhena’s equaliser, which Complete Sports and Daily Post said came just before the break. Complete Sports and Complete Sports’ match report noted Usor entered the game in the 61st minute and scored four minutes later.
Reports say the Super Eagles will meet Guinea-Bissau in matchday two on Tuesday, September 29, a fixture noted by Complete Sports.
