The Anambra First Family has issued a clarification on the godparent relationships linking Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s household and that of former governor Peter Obi, saying the women in both families are godmothers to each other’s children, not the men.
In a statement on Sunday, the Media Assistant to the Anambra First Lady, Dan Ezeigwe, set out the family ties. He said, “Dr Nonye Soludo, First Lady of Anambra State, is the confirmation godmother to Peter Obi’s daughter, while Mrs Margaret Obi, wife of Mr Peter Obi, is the baptismal godmother to one of Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s daughters. Neither Mr Obi, nor Professor Soludo, has served as a godparent to the other’s children.” Vanguard.
The clarification followed the circulation of a video and claims that Mr Obi and his wife were godparents to Soludo’s children. Ezeigwe said the claim and the inquiries it generated made it necessary to set the record straight, and he urged members of the public and the media to take note of the correction. Vanguard.
Addressing how the confusion arose, Ezeigwe suggested a verbal slip by the former governor might have caused the misunderstanding. “It is possible that Mr Peter Obi simply misspoke in the course of making his remarks,” he said in the statement. Vanguard.
The media aide emphasized that the relationship between the two families remains cordial and should not be misrepresented, and asked the public to disregard any impression that either Mr Obi or Governor Soludo had been godparents to each other’s children. Vanguard.
