Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, told residents at the Ohanivo New Yam Festival that funding will not hinder the All Progressives Congress’ campaigns for the 2027 elections, including those of President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, Vanguard reported.
Speaking at the festival grand finale held at Oshiri Primary School in Oshiri Development Centre, Onicha Local Government Area, Umahi said he could call on wealthy contacts to back the party. “We have nothing to worry about. Nothing. If it comes to money, I have over 5,000 billionaires who are my friends. Money will not be a problem,” he said, according to Vanguard.
The minister described the coming contest as a movement and said the APC would push grassroots mobilisation across the state. He was reported to have said the campaign would go “from house to house to educate our people” and urged supporters not to damage opposition materials or disrupt other parties’ activities. “You are free to campaign, But don’t cause trouble,” he added.
Traditional rulers and other stakeholders from Onicha, Ohaozara and Ivo local government areas used the gathering to endorse Tinubu for a second term and Nwifuru for re-election as governor, Vanguard reported. The endorsement followed a motion moved by Chief Ifesinachi Odii, a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission, and seconded by Ogbuefi Enekwachi Akpa.
Umahi also said he would continue to work with Nwifuru to secure what he described as “eight years” for the governor, and declared there was “no vacancy” in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 elections, the report said.
Governor Nwifuru, who addressed the audience at the festival, recalled the support that helped his 2023 victory and said he had received a personal blessing for his bid to serve a second term. He told the gathering: “Because I waited for that of Ohanivo first. I say, ‘Four plus four.'”
Chief Enekwachi Akpa, chairman of the occasion, described the New Yam Festival as a celebration of thanksgiving, culture, hard work, unity and prosperity, while Hon. Darlington Okereke, president general of the Ohanivo Development Association, said the event had promoted peace and unity and allowed the community to thank God for a bountiful harvest, Vanguard reported.
