Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate dissolution of state boards, commissions and parastatals and the termination of appointments of political appointees, the governor’s media office said on Sunday.

The statement said the decision follows the gradual winding down of the governor’s first term and comes ahead of Mr Oyebanji’s inauguration for a second term, scheduled for 16 October 2026. That explanation was given by the governor’s media office in the same statement.
Some office-holders were explicitly exempted from the exercise. Chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission, the Civil Service Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission and the Judicial Service Commission, are not affected by the dissolution, the statement said.
Governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will remain intact, the release added, noting this follows earlier directives from the governor. The statement also said the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, the Local Government Service Commission and the Teaching Service Commission will remain in office, even though their respective boards are dissolved.
Directors-General and Technical Advisors to the governor were listed among those exempted from termination of appointment.
In the statement, Mr Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and wished them success in their future endeavours.
