Super Eagles touch down in Bissau ahead of Group L qualifier

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Bissau ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, the team announced.

The arrival was confirmed by the national team media officer, Peomise Efoghe, and the squad is travelling under head coach Eric Chelle. The team landed at Osvaldo Vieira International Airport on Sunday evening after departing from Uyo, according to reporting by Complete Sports.

Both Complete Sports and the Daily Post reported the squad had made the trip to the Guinea-Bissau capital as they prepare for the Group L fixture with the Djurtus. Complete Sports said Nigeria will face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29, at the Estadio 24 de Setembro, in Bissau.

Match context

The Super Eagles began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau also won their opening game, defeating Tanzania 2-0 away, leaving the two sides level on points going into the second matchday.

Complete Sports noted the Uyo game featured goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor. The outlet added that a win in Bissau would put Nigeria in a strong position at the top of Group L.

Preparation in Uyo

Daily Post reported the Super Eagles remained based in Uyo after the Madagascar game and held a recovery session on Saturday, followed by a training session on Sunday morning before departing for Guinea-Bissau.

The two-day lead-up in Uyo was part of coach Eric Chelle’s preparations for what the Daily Post described as a top-of-the-table clash.
