In a show of rare political unity, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District on Monday unanimously adopted Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, as their consensus candidate for the 2027 Senate election.

The landmark endorsement was declared at a packed stakeholders’ meeting held at the Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu-Ode, drawing the full spectrum of party architectures from elders and lawmakers to councillors and ward executives across the district’s nine local governments.

Distinguished Senator Lekan Mustapha, CON, speaking on behalf of all stakeholders, said the decision reflects a “shared conviction” in the Governor’s capacity, character, and intellect to represent Ogun East effectively at the Red Chamber.

“We will constitute a body to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha stated, adding that leaders have resolved to procure his nomination forms for the 2027 poll.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, described the move as “historic and unanimous,” citing Governor Abiodun’s track record in governance and party cohesion as the basis for the district’s confidence.

Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, representing Odogbolu/Ijebu-Ode/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, also said the administration’s record of peace and development positions Abiodun to attract greater federal dividends to Ogun East.

Sagamu LG Chairman, Hon. Afolabi Odulate, echoed the call, urging the Governor to accept the district’s mandate.

The hall hosted a complete roll call of the Ogun East APC structure: all 103 councillors; all ward chairmen and executives; all LG executive chairmen, past and present; serving and former members of the State and National Assembly; members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and Elders Advisory Council; plus women and youth leaders.

Party leaders in attendance included former Senator Gbenga Kaka and Distinguished Senator Lekan Mustapha, CON; Ogun East APC Senatorial Chairman, Chief Adedoyin Adeleke; and party elders Kola Ogunjobi, Engr. Bayo Dayo, Chief Durojaye, Chief Pegba Otemolu, and Chief James Dina.
