Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, has left the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, and declared his support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, Vanguard reported.
The defection was announced at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where Sangogade formally led hundreds of youths, traders, artisans and other supporters from the APC into the APM, according to the report (Vanguard).
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Sangogade said his decision was driven by his personal political conviction and his belief in the direction of the APM. He said the move followed his assessment of political developments in the state and a desire to provide a platform for greater participation of young people in politics, the report said.
“I was a former Personal Assistant (PA) to Chief Adebayo Adelabu. I am not in any way in crisis with anyone. I’m mature enough to make a decision,” Sangogade told reporters, Vanguard reported. He also said, “The decision I made has nothing to do with my former boss, Chief Adelabu; it was a decision I took independently.”
Sangogade urged those who joined the movement to become actively involved in politics rather than remain passive observers. He told supporters to rally behind Adekanmbi across Oyo State’s 33 local government areas ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the report said.
According to the Vanguard account, Sangogade said his political mobilisation was meant to create an organised platform through which young people could have a stronger voice in determining leadership at state and national levels. He described the event as a demonstration of mobilisation around the APM in Oyo State.
The concert was held under the theme, “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” and marked the reception of Sangogade and his supporters into the APM, Vanguard reported.
Vanguard identified Sangogade as a former Personal Assistant to the former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu. The report framed Sangogade’s defection as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections and as an effort to mobilise young people for greater participation in governance.
