Flamingos beat Togo 4-0 to claim WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup

Nigeria’s Flamingos were crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after a 4-0 win over Togo in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire, completing a perfect five-win campaign.

The victory finished a tournament in which the Flamingos won all five matches, scored 17 goals and conceded two, figures reported by both Channels Television and Complete Sports. Captain Chidera Harmony converted two penalties in the first half to give Nigeria control, a sequence described by Channels Television.

Oluebube Umejiaku extended the lead in the 67th minute and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring in the 90th minute, details given by both outlets.

The win capped a dominant run through the regional tournament. Complete Sports reported that the Flamingos opened with a 5-0 victory over Niger Republic, followed by a 4-2 win over Ghana, then 2-0 successes against Burkina Faso and hosts Cote d’Ivoire before the final against Togo. Those match results were reported by Complete Sports.

The title will serve as preparation ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco next month, a connection made by both sources. Channels Television quoted the Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praising the team and officials. Ikpeme said, “The Flamingos have done very well, made the nation proud, and I have faith in the players that they are not done yet. I have confidence in the team to go to Morocco and achieve great things at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that is starting next month. It is no mean feat to win five matches out of five in a tournament. That is a distinction. The NFF is appreciative of the WAFU-B headquarters for organising the tournament as a premium preparatory event for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, and I believe the Flamingos have benefitted immensely ahead of the global competition.” The quote appears in the Channels Television report here.

Complete Sports identified coach Busari as the team leader who oversaw the perfect campaign. Both outlets said the squad will now focus on the global tournament in Morocco.

Channels Television also reported the successful side will return to Nigeria on Tuesday following the conclusion of the WAFU-B tournament. That detail was included in the Channels report here.
