Real Madrid said tests on Kylian Mbappé found a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee after the France captain left the pitch during Friday’s 1-0 win over Turkey.
The club made the diagnosis following medical examinations on Saturday, according to reports. The forward had opened the scoring before leaving the field shortly afterwards.
“Following tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical department on our player Kylian Mbappé, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee,”
and the club issued the statement, as reported by Channels Television and Vanguard.
New France coach Zinedine Zidane said the team would not risk Mbappé in the coming matches. Zidane said he would not use Mbappé in the three Nations League fixtures scheduled over the next 10 days, reports said.
France are due to travel to Belgium on Monday, then host Italy and Belgium at the Stade de France on October 2 and 5. Both outlets noted those fixtures fall within the short-term period Zidane referenced.
Real Madrid’s first match after the international break is away to Villarreal on October 10. Reports said that date could be too soon for Mbappé’s return, while Spanish daily AS reported he would certainly be ready for the El Clasico meeting with Barcelona on October 25.
Vanguard’s headline described the player as “out for two weeks or more”, a timeline presented by that outlet.
The reports did not provide further medical detail, rehabilitation plans or a precise return date beyond the references above.
