The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rains across large parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday, and warned that strong winds could precede some storms, the agency said in its three-day weather outlook.
What to expect each day
On Monday NiMet predicted patches of clouds over the northern region in the morning before thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains later in the day. For the North-Central region the agency forecast cloudy conditions in the morning with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains later, affecting the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.

In the North-Central states NiMet expects morning thunderstorms and light rains over Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa, before isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains later.

On Wednesday NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms and moderate rains over Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe in the North, with thunderstorms spreading across much of the region later. The North-Central region may see thunderstorms and light rains over Nasarawa and Plateau in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains across most parts later in the day. The South is expected to have intermittent light rain in the morning over the South-East and coastal areas, with intermittent moderate rains across the entire region by afternoon and evening.
Safety advice
NiMet warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas and advised residents to fasten loose objects. The agency recommended precautions including avoiding driving under heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances during thunderstorms and staying away from tall trees to reduce the risk of injury from falling branches.
NiMet also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation for effective operational planning, and asked the public to remain informed through regular updates from the agency.
The three-day outlook was released by NiMet and reported by national media outlets Vanguard and Nairametrics.
