Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has pledged the construction of a new ultra-modern market at Olomore in Abeokuta, alongside additional road projects aimed at improving the business environment in the area.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District and is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, gave the assurance at an endorsement ceremony organised by the 24 trade unions under the United Traders Forum (UTF), Ogun State, at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta.
Responding to the traders’ request for a modern market, the senator directed that preparatory work should commence, stating that construction workers would visit the site within the week. He also pledged to facilitate the construction of roads requested by some of the trade groups to improve accessibility and create a more conducive environment for commercial activities.
The proposed market is expected to address the long-standing demand by traders in Olomore for a modern trading facility similar to market projects associated with Adeola’s intervention in other parts of Ogun State, including Panseke. Adeola has previously highlighted market infrastructure, including lock-up shops, open shops, solar-powered boreholes and solar streetlights, as part of his interventions for traders.
The endorsement ceremony also featured financial contributions from several trade associations affiliated with the UTF. Among them were the Plank Sellers Association of Ogun State, Olomore Ram/Pepper/Fish Sellers, Egba Ram and Goat Sellers Association, Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association (Abeokuta Computer Village), Kemta Indigenous Timber Contractors and the Nigeria Automobile and Technicians Association (NATA), among others.
In response to the traders’ support, Adeola announced financial assistance of ₦50,000 each for 1,000 traders, amounting to ₦50 million, alongside additional financial support for the forum.
Earlier, the President of the United Traders Forum, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, said the 24 affiliated unions decided to endorse Adeola’s 2027 governorship bid based on what he described as his developmental interventions across Ogun State.
Ajadi specifically highlighted the traders’ desire for modern markets and improved road infrastructure, including roads serving major trading communities. He said members of the forum possessed Permanent Voter Cards and intended to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process.
The event was attended by several political and government figures, including APC Deputy Governorship Candidate Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, Ogun Central senatorial candidate Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni-Sodunke and Rt. Hon. Surajudeen Adekumbi, former PDP State Chairman Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, former APC State Chairman Hon. Derin Adebiyi, Commissioner for Forestry Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, and Commissioner for Housing Hon. Omoniyi Jagunmolu Akande, among others.
The Olomore commitment adds to Adeola’s stated focus on market infrastructure and trader support across Ogun State, with his existing programmes including financial grants and infrastructure interventions for market communities.
