Kaduna State held special prayers at the Sultan Bello Mosque on Friday as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, the state government told Premium Times.
The prayers followed the Friday congregational service and were attended by the Secretary to the State Government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, other senior state officials and Muslim worshippers. The mosque’s Deputy Chief Imam, Malam Abdullahi Aliyu, led the service and asked for divine wisdom and guidance for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in running the country and the state.
Speaking at the mosque, the Deputy Chief Imam urged political leaders and citizens to act with honesty, truthfulness and integrity, and reminded officeholders that positions of authority are temporary and that they will be held accountable for how they discharge their duties, Premium Times reported.
Separately, the Chairman of the Contractors Association of Kaduna State, Ahmed Baba, commended Governor Uba Sani for introducing a monthly payment arrangement to clear verified liabilities said to have been inherited from the previous administration. Mr Baba described the arrangement as a relief for contractors who executed projects under the former government.
Mr Baba told state officials that contractors awarded work by the present administration had not been owed since Mr Sani took office. He said the monthly payment plan would allow the government to systematically settle verified inherited liabilities while easing the financial burden on affected contractors. “The monthly payment structure that the Governor has approved is a lifeline to many of our members,” he said.
The chairman also pledged the association’s support for the administration’s infrastructure programme and urged contractors to maintain quality and deliver projects on time.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, told Premium Times the mosque prayers were one of several events planned for the independence celebrations. He said there would be an inter-denominational church service at Living Faith Church, Barnawa, on Sunday, with the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, James Kanyip, representing the governor.
Mr Maiyaki said the events will conclude with an official Independence Day parade at Murtala Mohammed Square on Thursday, October 1, to be presided over by Governor Uba Sani, Premium Times reported.
