Oyo police arrest two suspects in kidnapping of 38-year-old man

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two people in connection with the abduction of a 38-year-old man, the command said on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Nathaniel Peter, who was kidnapped at Layeri Village, via Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government Area, the police said. The command named the two suspects as Muhammadu Abubakar and Jayun Danali, and said they are assisting investigators.

Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement reported by the Punch and the Daily Post, said the incident was reported to officers on 24 September at about 17:50 hours after armed men had invaded a family compound earlier that morning.

According to the police account, at about 04:20 hours three armed men forced entry into Peter’s room and abducted him. The assailants fled into the National Reserve Forest, reportedly taking a Hajue motorcycle and the victim’s mobile phone.

The statement said the arrest of Abubakar and Danali has “provided useful investigative leads towards identifying and apprehending other persons connected with the incident.” The command added that coordinated operations with other security agencies have been intensified to secure the safe rescue of the victim and to arrest fleeing members of the alleged gang.

The police urged residents of the affected communities to remain vigilant and to promptly share credible information with officers as the investigation continues.
