Mushin leader Chief Taoreed ‘Baba Alado’ Faronbi dies aged 83
Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly called Baba Alado, has died. According to local reports, his family confirmed he died in the early hours of Saturday, 26 September 2026, at the age of 83, and that his remains were buried according to Islamic rites.
Faronbi held several traditional and commercial titles and was a long-standing figure in Lagos grassroots politics and the transport sector. The reports said Faronbi served as the Olori Ebi (head) of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin; was the Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom; and held the position of Babaloja of Aswani International Market.
For decades Faronbi was active in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and was widely known within the union as a leader. Both reports say he was also engaged in land development and real estate, and that parts of his work in that field sometimes prompted legal or communal disputes.
The funeral drew family members, friends, residents and several prominent political and community figures. Named among those who attended were Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon; the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe; and Dr Oluseyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area.
His death prompted tributes from across Lagos’ political, transport, trade and entertainment communities. Tributes were led by the national president of the NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, who issued a condolence message. One outlet published an official release in which MC Oluomo said: “Baba Alado was a man who made his mark, and whose name will remain remembered by many. His contributions, relationships, and presence within the transport and community space will not be forgotten.” (see sources below)
The reports said that beyond his roles in politics and transport, Faronbi was a noted socialite who maintained ties with leading Fuji and juju musicians including K1 De Ultimate, Osupa Saheed and Alabi Pasuma.
